Walton wins Decoturf Tournament

Reigning Class AAAAAA champion Walton girls won the Decoturf High School Tennis Championship with a 7-0 win over Pine Crest of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Senior Suzanne Zenoni, who has committed to Elon, was named the MVP of the tournament, which was held in Chattanooga.

Walton beat Ocean Springs (Miss.) 9-0 and Blessed Trinity 5-2 to win its pool, then defeated Baylor (Tenn.), 9-0 in the semifinal.

The Starr’s Mill girls picked up a big win over Brookwood last Thursday in a potential preview of the Class AAAAAA playoffs. West Forsyth takes Forsyth County title

Medalist Robert Shaw’s 73 helped West Forsyth post a school-record 298 and win the Forsyth County Golf Championship at Laurel Springs.
The Wolverines also got three 75s from Austin Jaynes, Austin Amburgy and Drew Ridings to win for the second straight week. West Forsyth won the Packer Invitational last weekend.

Tennis: Johns Creek, Harrison boys win Buckhead Rotary titles

The boys from Johns Creek and Harrison came away with championships at the 35th Rotary Club of Buckhead’s Tennis Championship.

Johns Creek won the Boys A Division and Harrison won the Boys B Division. The girls championship were claimed by Tennessee teams: Baylor in the A Division and Girls Preparatory in the B Division.

Top fields at Atlanta Athletic Club

Defending champion Brookstone leads an elite field of 18 of the top boys teams in the state at the High School Invitational hosted by the Atlanta Athletic Club on Monday. It’s a rare opportunity for high school teams to compete on the club’s Highland Course, which has hosted three PGA Championships, a U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur.

The first annual Greenway Trojan Invitational enters the calendar with plenty of promise.

The tournament is sponsored by Greenway Health (a sponsor of PGA champion Jason Dufner) and will be the only invitation-only, Junior Golf Scoreboard-ranked event in the state.

Players will compete in a 36-hole format, with the first 18 being played on Monday and the next round being played on March 30. All competition will be played at Sunset Hills

The two-time defending AAAAAA state champion Walton girls are off to a strong start in 2015 after winning their second consecutive Region 5 match last Wednesday. Walton hosted Milton and swept all five matches.
