Hawks to host three-day high school event

The Hawks Naismith Classic, set up through a partnership between the Atlanta Hawks, the Naismith Awards and the Atlanta Tip-Off Club, will feature 32 teams from around the state in a three-day event at Norcross High School. The event will feature 16 games Dec. 21-23.

More weekend hoops events on tap

There are a half-dozen basketball events scheduled around the state this weekend giving a broad menu for people looking to see numerous games in one day.

At Pope, the Southeast Basketball Academy Hoop Festival has five scheduled games featuring more than 45 college prospects. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students for all five games. Children under age 6 get in free.

Harrison girls haven’t missed a beat

The Harrison girls have picked up right where they left off last spring, when the Hoyas fell one point short in the state championship against Mays.

The big question for Starr’s Mill Friday night was whether they could slow down Bainbridge superstar running back Dameon Pierce.

The answer was not really, but the Starr’s Mill’s offense, which scored on four of five first-half possessions, neutralized Pierce’s impact in a 49-28 win over visiting Bainbridge in the second round of the Class AAAAA playoffs.
