Pope (34-6) won their third state baseball title Monday afternoon with a two-game sweep of Lee County (28-14) at State Mutual Stadium in Rome. Loading the bases in the bottom of the second, the Greyhounds scored two on a walk and an error before Lee County put up one in the fourth. Lassiter made its debut at No. 1 count as the Trojans avenged a 2016 finals loss to Lambert by defeating the Longhorns for the Class 6A-7A boys title. In the Class A-5A boys poll, Westminster used a 10-9 overtime victory in the finals to clinch the state title and the top ranking. Lambert finished in the driver’s seat of the state’s highest classifications after a 2-1 win over Grayson in the championship game. Lambert marched through Norcross, Kennesaw Mountain, Walton and Mill Creek n way to the championship game. Grayson moved through North Gwinnett, Lassiter, Milton and South Forsyth to earn a shot at the championship.

Meadowcreek reigns supreme in the state’s highest classification after moving past Pebblebrook 2-0 in the AAAAAAAA championship game. The Mustangs advanced past South Forsyth, Kennesaw Mountain, Etowah and Roswell for a shot at the title. Second-ranked Pebblebrook made it through Woodstock, Mill Creek, Berkmar and Walton before falling to Meadowcreek.
