Buford had been 9-0 against out-of-state teams and had not lost at home since 2012 (Gainesville). South Pointe QB Derion Kendrick, a Clemson commit, had 191 yards rushing and 133 passing. Buford led 27-26 on Anthony Grant’s 24-yard TD run with 8:16 left, but South Pointe went back ahead on its next possession. Next: Sept. 29 vs. Clarke Central (3-1)

Last week: Beat East Paulding 43-41. Carrollton never trailed but never led by more than nine points and didn’t have the game in hand until getting a first down in the final minute to run out the clock. Jaylan Thomas rushed for 243 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries. QB Mark Wright rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. He was only 9-of-19 passing for 96 yards. Last week: Beat Woodland-Stockbridge 46-7. Drake Bolus returned kickoffs 82 and 85 yards for touchdowns in the third quarter. He also rushed for 88 yards on 10 carries. QB Teldrick Ross rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns, one a 70-yard run to start the scoring, on nine carries. He was 6-of-8 passing for 97 yards and a touchdown. Last week: Beat Baldwin 21-16. His team trailing 16-14 and facing a fourth-and-10, Griffin QB Aviouos Nelson threw a 24-yard pass to David Westmoreland with 1:09 left for the winning score. It was Nelson’s third TD pass of the game and third fourth-down conversion on the 60-yard winning drive that started when Griffin recovered an onside kick. Griffin won despite minus-21 yards rushing. Nelson was 16-of-31 passing for 211 yards. Baldwin was held to 50 yards of total offense. Next: Friday vs. Whitewater (2-2)

Blackshear also rushed for 88 yards on 15 carries. Rico Powers rushed for 112 and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Swainsboro’s Jalyn Williams rushed for 233 yards on 26 carries. Next: Friday at Vidalia (1-2)

Last week: Beat Laney 65-19. Jefferson County set a school record for points in a game and achieved it in the third quarter. The QB tandem of Chardell Hales and Jaden Jenkins was 16-of-18 passing for 293 yards and three touchdowns, all to Ty King. They rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.
