Preseason all-state teams: Class AAAAAA

*Best player: Justin Fields is the most heavily recruited uncommitted player in the country after a highly acclaimed offseason of camps, combines and 7-on-7 showcases. One recruiting source, ESPN, elevated him to the No. 1 recruit nationally. In 2016, the dual-threat QB from Harrison was 158-of-231 passing (68.4 percent) for 2,278 yards and 19 touchdowns with only five interceptions. He rushed for 851 yards and 13 touchdowns.

*Best position: Offensive line. Houston County’s Trey Hill is the No. 2 guard prospect in the country. Brunswick’s Warren McClendon is a top-200 recruit nationally among juniors. Stephenson’s Jalil Irvin (Auburn commit) and Tucker’s Dylan Wonnum (South Carolina lean) also are top recruits.

*Highly recruited: Fields, Hill and McClendon are the cream of the crop along with four-star recruits Otis Reese of Lee County (a Michigan commit), Zakoby McClain of Valdosta, Jaycee Horn of Alpharetta and Tucker teammates Josh Vann and Michael Harris.

*Lowly recruited: College coaches are struggling to get past Zion Custis’s 5-foot-8 stature, but the Lovejoy back just keeps producing. He ran for 1,487 yards last season, his second straight over 1,000. His only firm offer is Faulkner University, but mid-majors such as Western Carolina, East Carolina and UTC are very interested.

*What else is new? Tucker, the 2016 state runner-up to Valdosta, placed five players on the list, the most of any school. That includes Harris, the Region 4 defensive player of the year who transferred from Lovejoy. He’s committed to Auburn.
