Daily List: Regions with at least three No. 1-ranked teams in a season

Football, listBelow are the 12 regions that have had three or more teams ranked No. 1 at any point during a season. Most are from the 1960s, when regions were larger. The latest region to accomplish the feat (and only the second in 40 years) is Region 1-AAAAAA with Houston County, Lee County and Valdosta. They’ve done it in three consecutive weeks. Surprisingly, that is not unprecedented, either.  It happened most recently in 1975, when Adairsville, Trion and Bremen from Region 6-B were No. 1 on Oct. 14, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28. In 2006, Region 7-AAAAA had North Gwinnett, Norcross and Peachtree Ridge ranked No. 1 in three consecutive polls – Nov. 6, Nov. 13 and Dec. 18 – but the Dec. 18 poll was after five rounds of the playoffs. The history-making for Region 1-AAAAAA might not be finished. Northside (Warner Robins) is currently ranked No. 2. And its fifth member, Coffee, is ranked No. 10.
