Woodward Academy’s Elijah Holyfield scores 7 touchdowns

Woodward Academy star Elijah Holyfield, son of former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield, scored seven touchdowns in the War Eagles’ 45-13 win over Decatur on Friday. Holyfield returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a score then added six touchdown runs. He finished with 147 yards rushing.

Friday night notes

–No. 1 Buford has yet to allow a point. The Wolves mauled Berkmar of Class AAAAAA, 56-0, on Friday.

–Perennial power Carrollton is 0-2 for the first time since 1977. The Trojans lost to Newnan in dramatic fashion, their second straight loss to open new coach Ed Dudley’s tenure. With the game tied, Newnan’s returned an interception 48 yards for the winning touchdown with 2:43 to play. Carrollton reached the Class AAAA championship game last season.

–Burke County held Jefferson County to 99 yards of offense and seven first downs in a 20-7 win on Friday. The Bears shut out Statesboro last week. Opponents are averaging just 2.5 yards per play against the Bears this season.

–Defending AAAA champion Griffin ran past Henry County, 47-7, in new coach Jarrett Laws’ debut.

How could Elijah score seven touchdowns, when according to the AJC, the final score was 45-13? With this score, the most touchdowns would be six.

Cutting those classes in second grade has caught up with you.


@Gopher86 @BobKlingensmith old Bob must live in DeKalb or Fulton Co...had to have his math scores changed to play.....congrats to the young Holyfield....sure did appreciate what his Dad did during his illustrious career 



After reading the account of the game, it appears that the placekicker missed four PATs.
