Four Questions with Veterans coach David Bruce

By Todd Holcomb

GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We’ll report from a different head coach each day.

David Bruce, Veterans

1. Who is/was the most influential person in your coaching career? “Coach Robert Davis. Coach Davis taught me how a first-class program is supposed to be run. He taught me to look beyond the Xs and Os and that relationships are what really matters. I credit any coaching success I have had by learning from him.”

2. Who is the best Georgia player you ever faced? “Jeff Francouer. Playoffs 2000 and 2001. He was such a great yet humble competitor. He made plays for his team and had an infectious attitude that made you respect the way he played the game.”

3. What is the best team you ever faced as a coach? “Parkview 2000. The played football like it was supposed to be played, tough and disciplined. They were relentless on both sides of the ball.”

4. If you were Gary Phillips, the new head of the GHSA, what would be the first rule that you would try to change? “I am not sure I would change a rule, but I would caution officials to be judicious with the targeting call this year until it can be better defined at the high school level.”
