Reclassification affects preseason rankings

By Ricky Dimon

With seven titles in the last seven years, Buford will be bidding for an eighth straight championship that would come in a third different classification. The Wolves triumphed in Class AAA for a second consecutive time in 2013 after five victories in succession in Class AA. They are now kicking off their 2014 campaign in the top Class AAAA spot.

The story is a similar one for Calhoun, which is making a jump from Class AA to Class AAA. Calhoun rolled to a title last season and it may now be the primary beneficiary of Buford’s move to Class AAAA. The Yellow Jackets will be almost completely reloaded with a ton of experience back on the team.

Gordon Lee finds itself in Class AA after dominating Class A with four consecutive championships. With five starters needing to be replaced, the Trojans are settling in behind Harlem and Heard County in the first installment of the rankings.

Pope HS is in 6A & needs removed from 5A.  Puzzled by the omission of Greenbrier HS from the 5A rankings.  They are loaded with jr & sr experienced players coming back from a 26 & 8- 2013 season.

Very confusing article. Thought this was football. Needs to say something about softball. Probably just an attempt to get more clicks.

I believe Pope is in 6A  this year. In the same region with Lassiter.
