GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We’ll report from a different head coach each day.
Heath Webb, Winder-Barrow
1. Who is/was the most influential person in your coaching career?“Arnold Meeks, quarterback coach at Habersham Central [mid ’80s-late ’90s]. Coach Meeks taught me that you can be excellent at your job, push players hard and still care about them on a personal level.”
2. Who is the best Georgia player you ever faced?“Timmy Smith, running back at Central Gwinnett [’92-’93]. You couldn’t tackle that guy in a phone booth.”
3. What is the best team you ever faced as a coach?“2013 Norcross team. You couldn’t find a weakness anywhere. Loaded with talent.” (GHSFD: Webb was the quarterbacks coach at Peachtree Ridge in 2013.)
4. If you were Gary Phillips, the new head of the GHSA, what would be the first rule that you would try to change?“Twenty-five-second play clock in all stadiums. Different officiating crews operate at different paces. Adding a play clock would make each crew operate more uniformly and provide for consistent play week to week.”
