Daily List: A look back at the Super 11 from 10 years ago

By Todd Holcomb

The 2014 Atlanta Journal-Constitution Super 11 team will be announced in two weeks. Here is the Super 11 team from 10 years ago. One is still playing. Chris Scott is a guard for the Carolina Panthers. Tray Blackmon became the all-class player of the year, but he and most of the others did not have outstanding college football careers. In fact, two of the 11 – Tyler Horne (baseball) and Charles Jackson (basketball) – focused on other sports in college.

LB Travis Barr, Chattahoochee

LB Tray Blackmon, LaGrange

LB Antonio Clay, Twiggs County

LB Darius Dewberry, Peach County

RB Matt Dunham, Pacelli

QB Tyler Horne, Newnan

OL Charles Jackson, Tri-County

DL Justin Mincey, Charlton County

DL Brandon Perry, Hawkinsville

OL Chris Scott, Lovejoy

RB Tony Wright, Peach County

@Tiger77 == Who else is needed? The school is only 25 years old. What do you expect? A superstar every year? Life does not work that way. Some schools that have been around much longer may not have that many. The retiring of a jersey is not something that is just done of the cuff. The greatest honor that can bestowed upon these kids is your admiration. If you are a true fan, you remember these kids and their play and how much you enjoyed watching them. as long as they have that coming from the community, it does not matter if the school does it. It would be nice but by no means is it necessary.

This is a great example of what a crapshoot college recruiting is. That is a VERY low percentage that panned out. It is very difficult to determine if the talent displayed at the high school level will translate to the next level. It continues in the transition at the next level as well. How many star colligate athletes flamed out in the pros?

Chris is remembered and appreciated here at Lovejoy. He will not be forgotten. We have retired jerseys at Lovejoy. Unless you are here, you don't know.

After all, we are Wildcats, not Tigers.

It's unfortunate that his on High School has not acknowledged his career nor have they paid tribute to many of the other athletes  that have had good positive career. Every other high school seems proud of and recognize those who  do well. The high school  didn't just start playing football. Those players and teams from the early 2000 help get things started from a recruiting and winning perspective. They  help put that school on the football map.
