Simple battery charges against retired Lincoln County football coach Larry Campbell have been dropped by the plaintiff, WRDW-TV in Augusta has reported.
Campbell was charged on May 14 after an altercation at a Lincoln County school board meeting. Campbell was accused by Shaun Glass of grabbing Glass by the shirt and threating to kill him after Glass publicly criticized Campbell’s son, school superintendent Brian Campbell.
Campbell through his attorney acknowledged that he placed his hands on a man’s shirt and told him to stop making disparaging comments but denied making any threats.
Glass’s attorney, Vic Hawk, told the TV station that Glass no longer wanted to pursue charges against Campbell.
Campbell, 65, retired in April as athletics director and football coach. His 477 victories rank first all-time in Georgia. His Lincoln County teams won 11 state championships.
