Senior forward Isaiah Wilkins, who led Greater Atlanta Christian to a 32-0 finish, is the Gatorade boys basketball player of the year for Georgia.
Wilkins averaged 18.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.4 blocks, 2.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Wilkins scored 29 points with 12 rebounds and four blocked shots in Greater Atlanta Christian’s 58-55 win over Calhoun in the Class AA final.
Past Georgia winners of the Gatorade award include Brannen Greene (2013, Tift County), Tony Parker (2012, Miller Grove, Shannon Scott (2011, Milton), Ryan Harrow (2010, Walton) and Derrick Favors (2008, 2009 South Atlanta).
Wilkins has committed to Virginia. Wilkins now is a finalist for the Gatorade national player of the year to be announced later this month.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s state players of the year will be announced next week.
