Alpharetta promotes offensive coordinator as head coach

By Todd Holcomb

Alpharetta has promoted offensive coordinator Jacob Nichols as head football coach.

Nichols, who will be formally introduced as head coach on Monday in a meet and greet with boosters, players and parents, will replace Jason Dukes, who took a head coaching job at Smiths Station in Alabama.

Nichols was offensive coordinator for the past two seasons and coached the offensive lines in 2010 and 2011. He also is Alpharetta’s strength and conditioning coordinator.

Nichols played on Parkview’s1997 state championship team. He got into coaching in 2004 as a community assistant at an Alabama middle school while getting a degree at UAB.

Alpharetta, which opened in 2004, was 34-21 in Dukes’ five seasons and won region titles in 2011 and 2013.
