Cook hires Irwin County’s Lindsey as football coach

By Todd Holcomb

Jon Lindsey, who led Irwin County to the Class A public-school football semifinals in 2013, will be approved as the new head coach at Cookat a board of education meeting Monday evening in Adel.

Lindsey will replace Ken Cofer, who took the head coaching job at Bacon County. Lindsey and Cofer coincidentally are graduates of Paulding County High and the University of West Georgia, though they were not classmates.

Lindsey was 20-13-1 in three seasons at Irwin County, which won its first state-playoff game this past season in 11 years. Cook is a Class AA school that will move to AAA this fall. Irwin County and Cook are Tifton-area schools about 40 miles apart.

”It really seemed like a great fit for me and my family,” Lindsey said. “They seem to have a good plan for the direction of their academic and athletic programs.”

Lindsey was Camden County’s defensive coordinator from 2005 to 2010 and was part of state-championship teams in 2008 and 2009.

Great move for Cook Co but bad for Irwin who really loved  Lindsey.  Hope Irwin can fined a good coach....

Bacon Co has had its problems in past. Maybe Cofer  can turn it around in Alma.  Its all  a business and $$$ and wins is the name of the game.
